Sep 24: On September 8th is one of the special days celebrated by Mangalorian Catholic Christian Community, so it was for the Parishioners of St Jude Thaddeus Church at Pakshikere. The celebration of the Monti Feast (Nativity of the B.V.M. feast) began with the blessing of the new harvest at the market place in Pakshikere.
Rev Fr Anil D’Souza, Asst Parish Priest blessed the ‘New Corn’ and Rev Fr Valerian D’Silva Capuchin Priest from Moodbelle delivered message on the importance of the feast amidst the heavy showers. The showers of rain for the Pakshikere faithful was the showers of blessings bestowed on them. Therefore their spirit could not be lessened.
Amidst the heavy rain the Parishioners specially children with flowers marched through the rain in procession, hailing the B.V.M. as the trumpets of Perampalli sang the praises of Mary and as the drums beat the sound of joy. The celebration continued with the Holy Eucharist in the Church. Rev Fr Valerian, Rev Fr Anil and Rev Fr James Quadras were the celebrants of the day. Rev Fr valerian D’Silva was the main preacher. He preached on the role of B.V.M. as the mother. He also stressed on the role of mothers in the families and society. The mass ended with the solemn blessing and distribution of ‘new corn’. Thereafter sugarcane was distribured to all even the people of other faith. The church was full of people from far and wide who came down to celebrate the family feast.
